What's Included
Fireplace Repair Services We Offer
We start with a full inspection because a problem you can see often starts somewhere you cannot. These are the repairs we handle most often.
Firebox Repair
Cracked firebrick and open mortar joints are replaced so heat and gases stay where they belong.
Flue Liner Repair
Cracked or missing flue tiles are repaired or flagged, because unsafe liners let heat and gases escape.
Smoking Fireplace Diagnosis
Poor draft is traced to the damper, flue size, chimney height or blockages, then corrected.
Damper and Smoke Chamber
Damaged dampers and rough smoke chambers are repaired so smoke rises cleanly.
Hearth and Surround Repair
Loose brick and stone and cracked hearth masonry are reset and repointed.
Chimney Crown and Cap Repair
Cracked crowns and worn caps are rebuilt so rain and snowmelt stay out.
Inspection
A Full Fireplace Inspection Comes First
Before anything is repaired, we inspect the firebox, damper, smoke chamber, flue and chimney masonry. We look for open joints, cracked firebrick, soot patterns, water stains and signs of past chimney fires. Then we explain what is urgent, what can wait and what each repair will cost.
Fire-safety codes such as NFPA 211 call for fireplaces and chimneys to be inspected every year, and for good reason. Cracked liners and open joints let heat and gases escape into walls and living spaces. Anything unsafe is dealt with before the next fire.
Smoking Fireplace
Why Your Fireplace Smokes and How We Fix It
A fireplace that smokes into the room is usually fighting its own design. Common causes include a closed or damaged damper, a flue that is too small or too short, a blocked chimney and a cracked crown. We check each one in turn instead of guessing.
Once the cause is clear, the fix may be as simple as clearing a blockage or repairing the damper, or as involved as rebuilding part of the chimney. We explain your options before we start so there are no surprises.
Firebox
Firebox, Firebrick and Mortar Joint Repair
Intense heat cracks firebrick and wears out the mortar between the bricks over many seasons. Open joints can let heat reach the framing behind the firebox, which is a real fire risk. We replace damaged firebrick and repoint the joints with high-heat refractory mortar made for firebox use.
A repaired firebox should be tight, level and free of gaps. We check the work before we leave and show you what was changed, so you know the fireplace is ready for burning season.
Chimney Crown
Chimney Crown, Cap and Flashing Repair
Water is the biggest enemy of a chimney. A cracked crown, missing cap or failed flashing lets rain and snowmelt soak into the masonry and flue tiles, then freeze and break them from the inside. We rebuild crowns, install sloped concrete caps and repair flashing so water runs off instead of in.
These repairs are often the least expensive way to protect a chimney, and they help prevent much bigger rebuilds later. If your chimney shows white staining, loose bricks or rust stains, it is worth a look before winter.
Safety
When Is a Fireplace Unsafe to Use?
Stop using your fireplace if you see cracked flue tiles, gaps in the firebox mortar, loose bricks or smoke entering the room. After any chimney fire, do not use the fireplace until it has been inspected.
If you are buying a home with a fireplace, an inspection before you buy is a smart step. We check the firebox, flue and chimney masonry and give you a clear written price for any repairs that turn up.
Cost
What Affects Fireplace Repair Cost
Repair costs depend on what the inspection finds. A few replaced firebrick or a repointed joint is a small job, while a damaged flue liner or a rebuilt crown takes more time and materials. Access to the chimney also affects the schedule.
You receive a written price listing materials and labor, with urgent safety repairs first. Anything optional is marked as such so you can decide what to do now and what can wait.

Questions
Fireplace Repair FAQs
Q1
Is it safe to use a fireplace with cracked firebrick?
Hairline cracks are common, but open gaps or missing pieces can let heat reach the framing behind the firebox. Have it inspected before the next fire.
Q2
How often should a fireplace be inspected?
At least once a year before burning season, after any chimney fire and before you buy a home with a fireplace.
Q3
Can you repair the fireplace and chimney in one visit?
Yes. When a fireplace needs repair and the chimney cap is not working, we can usually take care of both in a single visit, which saves scheduling time.
