What's Included
Fill-In Services We Offer
A good fill-in is structural, not just cosmetic. We close the opening, bond it into the wall and match the surrounding masonry as closely as the brick allows.
Window Fill-Ins
Unused or oversized windows are closed with brick that is bonded into the surrounding wall.
Door Fill-Ins
Retired doorways are filled and finished to match the rest of the elevation.
Mailbox Fill-Ins
Old wall-mounted mailbox openings are closed so the brick looks whole again.
Brick and Mortar Matching
Brick size, color, texture and mortar color are matched so the patch blends in.
Lintel and Opening Check
Opening edges and lintels are inspected so the new masonry sits on sound support.
Door and Window Cut-Ins
Need a new opening instead? We cut openings into masonry and install correctly sized lintels.
Why Fill In
Why Homeowners Close Old Openings
Openings get retired for many reasons. A remodel may move a window, a garage conversion may remove a door or an old mail slot may no longer be needed. Left open or poorly patched, these spots leak, draw attention and lower curb appeal.
A proper fill-in closes the gap permanently and blends into the wall. It protects the interior from rain and snowmelt and gives the house a clean, finished look.
Matching
Making a Fill-In Disappear
The goal is a wall where no one can tell an opening was ever there. We match brick size, color and texture, then match the mortar color, strength and joint style. Courses are lined up with the existing wall so the pattern continues without a break.
Older brick weathers over time, so new brick can look brighter than the wall around it. We sort and place units carefully, and we explain what to expect before we begin.
Structure
Structural Details Behind the Brick
A fill-in has to carry itself and stay put through freeze-thaw cycles. We check the opening edges and the support above it, then bond the new masonry into the existing wall instead of simply stacking brick in the hole.
That bonding keeps the patch from cracking away from the wall and keeps water from finding a gap around it. It is the difference between a fill-in that lasts and one that shows after the first winter.
Mailboxes
Mailbox Fill-Ins and New Brick Mailboxes
Wall-mounted mailbox openings are common on older homes, and they become leak points once the mailbox is removed. We close them with matching brick and finish the wall cleanly.
If you want a new mailbox instead, we also build, remodel and repair brick and stone mailboxes that add curb appeal. A mailbox can be matched to your home's brick or stone for a cohesive look.
Cut-Ins
Need a New Opening? Door and Window Cut-Ins
Fill-ins close openings, and cut-ins create them. We cut new window and door openings into masonry and install correctly sized lintels so the wall above is supported.
Many remodels combine both: one opening is closed and another is created in a better location. We can handle both parts of the job so the wall reads as one.
Cost
What Affects the Cost of a Fill-In
Size matters most, since a larger opening needs more brick and more time. Wall thickness, access, the need for a new or repaired lintel and the difficulty of matching your brick also change the price. Small mailbox openings are usually less involved than large window or door openings.
You receive a written price after we see the wall, with the brick match planned before work begins. Estimates are free, and you decide at your own pace.
Timing
Best Time to Schedule a Fill-In
Mortar cures best in mild weather, so spring, summer and early autumn are the best times for fill-ins. We schedule and shield work around extremes when we can, because masonry that cures properly lasts longer.
If an opening is letting weather into the house, call us at any time of year. We will explain whether a temporary measure makes sense until conditions allow a full fill-in.

Questions
Fill-In FAQs
Q1
Can you close a window or door opening in a brick wall?
Yes. We close retired window, door and mailbox openings with bonded brick that matches the surrounding masonry.
Q2
Will the filled-in area be visible?
We work to make it disappear by matching brick, mortar and joint style, but older brick weathers, so a faint difference can remain. We explain what to expect before we start.
Q3
Do you also cut new openings?
Yes. We cut door and window openings into masonry and install correctly sized lintels.
